Tiny Home Theft; Securing Your Home the Right Way

Tiny Homes are all the rage right now. A wide demographic of people love them because in addition to being beautiful, they are energy efficient and a viable solution to the current housing crisis this country faces. Tiny Homes are usually found to be on wheels, which is great because that’s the whole point to a lot of people who want to be able to move their home around easily. But Tiny Houses being mobile is also serving another demographic; thieves.

Here are some tips you can use to keep your Tiny Home secure:

• You can take the wheels off or block the wheels or use a wheel lock.
• Use a Heavy-Duty Chain to chain your THOW up to a tree or other secure structure.
• Use a Hitch Lock.
• Its always a good idea to use a Tamper Proof GPS Tracker.
• Park your THOW so that any potential thieves cannot have access to your hitch.

It is a good idea to talk to your neighbors and keep an eye on each other’s THOW’s, just like in a traditional neighborhood. Also make sure to install some type of Home Security, maybe even a furry version that will alert you to an intruder. Lastly, Insurance is definitely a good idea, we recommend Foremost.

Tiny Houses; Get on Board or Get Left Behind

Many people and families enjoy living in their Tiny House on Wheels. They saved and planned to achieve their goal of living a minimalistic life and have now earned the right to enjoy it. Placement is still a nightmare for some of the masses, and others have had no issues.

If you own a Tiny House then you know that they are already accepted at Mobile Home Parks, RV Parks and Tiny House Communities of course. Having them listed as ADU’s has worked in many cities and counties.

Me myself, I’d prefer to have my Tiny Home listed as the Primary Structure on my own piece of property. This can be tricky. In my experience, the more rural counties are more accepting of this idea.

Tiny House Placement isn’t what it was 3 years ago that’s for sure. Thanks to the growing awareness that the Tiny House Community has helped provide by hosting and/or attending the Tiny House Festivals and events, placement has been opening up all over the place. The American Tiny House Association is a great resource for valuable placement option information. Check out their Website. So, in conclusion, the jurisdictions and municipalities that are on the fence or just not forward thinking enough to realize the wonderful opportunities that Tiny Living provides for the community, are going to endure all of us driving through their counties to the adjoining one that is THOW friendly to spend our tax dollars.
