10 Cool and Creative Storage Solutions for Your Tiny Space

Looking for help with storage ideas? There are literally tons of articles about this but I thought I would narrow down the list for you with some of my faves that I have found to be great solutions! When you live Tiny, how you use your small amount of space matters greatly. I’ve found quite a few cool ways to keep your Tiny Home clutter-free and remain your happy place.

Living in tight quarters shouldn’t hold you back from meeting your storage needs. With the right strategies, it’s easy to live small and store well.

1. Floating Shelves – With a bit of time and ingenuity, floating shelves can be more than just organizational. For your kitchen or your bathroom, they’re super easy to install and, if you take just a few minutes to arrange everything, the outcome will be all kinds of beautiful. I love the rustic wood look of these shelves.

2. Bookshelf Trees – These are super cute and I’ve seen a variety of them on Amazon or Wayfair and also in a few Tiny Homes. If you’re on a budget, you could even find the ones you love and then DIY, doesn’t look too difficult for a side project. That is, depending on how crafty you are.

3. Stackable Pot Racks – Even if you don’t live in a small space, these are a cool way to keep your pots and pans organized. There are a wide variety of pot rack styles to choose from, depending on how many items you have to store and how much space is available in your kitchen. You can opt for a hanging, wall-mounted, or freestanding pot rack, or there are adjustable options that fit inside of your cabinets. I found one on Amazon that holds 50 pounds and is very sturdy but you can see some recommended choices here: https://www.thespruce.com/best-pot-racks-4154799

4. Hidden Storage Ideas – Not everything needs to be stored in clear view. To maintain a cleaner look, utilize hidden storage that keeps things out-of-sight but still accessible. Furniture tricks, like an ottoman with storage or this upholstered storage bench, can stylishly hide things that you don’t want guests to see.

5. Hidden Counter – Whether you just need some room to chop veggies, or to just set the groceries down when you first come through the door after shopping, this expandable counter is just the idea you need. Make sure you consider size and strength when building so that your hardware doesn’t bend or break it under load. Expand counter space and when finished, just slide it back in. I thought this was super cool!

6. Fake Drawers – Who says you can’t turn a fake drawer — you know, those decorative panels under your kitchen sink — into a real one? They don’t need to be deep, just enough to store spices, sponges, scouring pads and the like. All you’ll need is hinges and a tip-out tray, which you’ll attach to the inside panel.

7. Stair Storage – If there’s stairs in a Tiny Home, then more than likely, you’ll find hidden storage; there are some pretty clever builders that incorporate this into the design. Pullouts, closets, and drawers are all very popular ways to take advantage of the under-stair storage. The beauty is that you can hide as much of it as you want by fronting the cubbies with doors or leaving them open. This is just one example, but search the internet and you’ll find plenty. Hand railing is a requirement for NOAH ANSI+ Standard built Tiny Homes.

8. Use Vertical Spaces – Utilizing vertical space, like behind-the-door storage, is a smart solution for tight quarters. Those precious square feet can be put to good use, especially for storing small items that would otherwise clutter up rooms. A variety of slim wire baskets—better to keep contents in view—lines the back of this door to corral gift-wrapping essentials.

9. Clever Shoe Storage – I don’t see a lot of Tiny Housers with this many shoes, but in the event you’re a shoe fanatic, it can be a significant headache for cramped quarter organization. With some creativity, tucking them away in even the tiniest of spaces is doable. Love this cabinet by All Day Chic!

10. Floating Cabinets – This is a genius way to maximize your storage tenfold. It’s better than filling up an already cramped space with tables and dressers for additional storage. Floating cabinets can store nearly anything you can imagine without taking up any floor space.

Pare Down and Keep Decluttering – You know when you “went Tiny”, all that decluttering and paring down you did? Well, keep it up and don’t let unwanted clutter start. Keep things organized and neat! And if you kept things in the beginning you really weren’t sure about, do the 6 month check – if you haven’t used it or needed it in the last 6 months, donate it or toss it! Or sell it if it’s worth it.

This is just a small compilation of some cool ideas I found to be useful and creative storage. If you’re living Tiny, you might have be using some of these storage tricks already. With so many folks joining the Tiny movement these days, there are tons of different ideas out there.
